Good book for the novice to intermediate craftsman

Good book for the novice to intermediate craftsman, the information is clearly explained and is helpful. The pictures unfortunately are often too small or are taken from too far away, so many are not that helpful. There are not many good books available on brazing and soldering though, so this is still a very good purchase. I liked it enough that I think I will purchase the Welding edition from the same author.

Knife maker's helper

Bought as a gift for a knife maker who needed to be able to solder where the hilt and blade meet. He read it front to back without putting it down and proceeded to solder perfectly. Many of the books about soldering are aimed at jewelry making. This book was the only one we could find that covered more than that. Was worth the money because he's putting out extremely high quality knives and has many orders for his work.

Classy reprint of landmark book

One of the most important scientists of the 20th century is a little known Indian, Sir Jagadis Chandra Bose. He was trained in England and spent most of his life working in the realm of physics and applied biology, namely botany and plant physiology. His works, sadly ignored largely by the west, mark some of the greatest achievements of the century. He demonstrated wireless transmission before Marconi and created a number of sensitive measuring devices based on optics which revealed the most micro growth movements of plants. He achieve a magnification factor of some 25,000 times, using equipment he had designed and made, with the help of an illiterate tin smith. This work outlines some of his greatest work, the thin line between living and non-living material. This timely reprint is a testament to a remarkable man whose achievements in science beggar belief to this day. While produced photographically from the original text, it still reproduces a quality book written in the unique style of one of our greatest scientists of yesteryear. That such great works are not only preserved, but republished for a new generation to read and enjoy is a tribute to the publishers. Highly recommended for any reader interested in the fascinating history of the pursuit of knowledge. 5 stars.

Very Difficult

I chose reading this book as the subject matter appeared very compelling, namely the similarities and contrasts between "living" and "non living substance". However, I was only able to get through a couple of chapters and feel that one would need a very extensive scientific background to understand this book. I gave this book only one star; however, this may reflect my own ignorance rather than a true assessment of this book.

This book is a MUST HAVE for anyone in the Supply Chain - Transportation arena....it is invaluable. We have gone as far as to work with the publisher to have the print versions 'branded' with our companies logo, so that we could offer them to clients as GWP (Gift With Purchase). Please note that the price is what I have seen the publisher 'World Trade Press' sell the PDF version for, however if users simply Google World Trade Press and goto there website...the price is only $70.00 USD not including shipping.

EXCELLENT Resource

Provocative

IIn Forest Primeval, Vievee Francis provokes what feels like an intimate conversation with the reader or as a commentary on the book jacket puts it “a sacred conversation with the reader, wrestling with the distressing angel for all of us and demanding a blessing.” There’s such honesty in these poems, a willingness to be direct and risky around matters of the heart, including revenge or resentment: "When you left, I went to your swan's coop, / snapped every slender neck / in the lot." The speaker seems always in quest of truth driven by a curiosity about what drives her and what is actually going on, and a willingness to challenge her own assumptions. The lyricism of so many lines stand out (“like a sorrow of banjoes”), along with the evocative use of fairy tales and myth to address questions of male-female relationships, beauty, and modern living. It’s an amazing book, one I’ll read again (and again), to savor and to study how the poet does what she does.

Beautiful, haunting and not afraid of the ugly making ...

Vievee Francis is one of the most exciting poets I've discovered within the last year. Beautiful, haunting and not afraid of the ugly making her words cut twice as deep. Most poets will spend years trying to replicate a work such as Forest Primeval and never come close to its incandescent, transcendent nature.The rhythm is both as blunt as a sharp point of a cliff and at other times it stops dead in its track to call attention to a small and intricate detail otherwise ignored. It is the perfect observation of the intense joys and sadness or loneliness of an artistic dreamer life and of the life of a woman in general. I am proud to call Vievee Francis a fellow woman and feminist. This book is so well worth the purchase. An absolute hidden gem. I promise you will not be disappointed.

This is a fantastic piece of work from Vievee Francis!. In Forest Primeval, she covers difficult emotional terrain regarding race, gender, image, and the and the author's personal biography that extends from the rural farm life of Texas to the cold concrete of Chicago and on to the woods of North Carolina. The poet's visceral use of image and stunning insight will make you wince as you turn the page to the next poem, and the next, and the next...

This absolutely blew me away! Some I figured, but seriously, what an ending! I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery and can enter the mind of the mentally unstable. No, she's not "crazy" just a little confused.

Terrific story!

Wow, the only thing reason I'm giving this book four stars instead of five stars is because to me it started a little too slow but even as I write this I'm wondering if that slow start was done for a reason because it sure speeded up the farther along I got. All of the characters were so well drawn, Anna in particular.

I felt so bad for her and everything she had been through but I alternated between wanting to hug her one minute and the next to try to shake some sense into her. She was really the poster child for denial!

I won't say anything more for fear of inadvertently giving something away. Highly recommended.

Finding Purpose in Life by Listening to your Heart

The Power of the Heart is the companion book to the film by the same name. Each chapter of the book focuses on a different power of the heart, such as gratitude, forgiveness, resilience, and love. Baptist de Pape then provides quotes from the 18 spiritual leaders he interviewed, along with his thoughts on each power. Quotes from other famous people are also peppered throughout. At the end of each chapter, he provides a “Contemplation” exercise relevant to the topic of the chapter. The format of the book reminded me of The Secret by Rhonda Byrne.

I liked seeing the differing perspectives of the spiritual leaders to the topics Baptist raised. I found myself particularly drawn to the quotes from Deepak Chopra and Paulo Coelho. Here’s an example from each:

Deepak: “Love without action is meaningless, and action without love is irrelevant.”

Paulo: “There is nothing wrong with fear. The only thing that is wrong is to be paralyzed by fear.”

Baptist also made some great observations, like saying: “Resentment is like a cup of poison you pour down your throat in the hope it will kill the other person. And while the other remains unharmed, you wind up destroying yourself.”

There were also some great quotes from historical figures to illustrate certain points, such as Gandhi’s comment: “As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world…as in being able to remake ourselves.”

This is not the kind of book where you get an in-depth look at the philosophy of each spiritual leader, but it does provide inspiring reminders from all of them to lead with our hearts if we really want to live a purposeful life. The quotes alone make it an excellent read.

Beginning with the attention to detail on the cover, the dust jacket, the paper and the layout, this is a book you will keep forever. The book is a companion to the movie, featuring the vision of the author/creator Baptist De Pape and what he calls his “co-creators,” eighteen icons of the spiritual and scientific world. He interviewed them over a period of time, including Deepak Chopra, Paulo Coelho, Eckart Tolle, Jane Goodall and many more. The results are breathtaking. As a Licensed HeartMath® Trainer, I am fully aware of the heart as the center of our power and wisdom as represented here by Howard Martin and Rollin McCraty. This treasured volume was written to educate, motivate, inspire, and enlighten readers of the most powerful dimension of consciousness, energy, wisdom, of life itself: the human heart. This short volume is divided into three parts. Part I: Paths To The Heart, Part II: The Inner Powers, Part III: Heart In The World. The eighteen contributing authors - medical professional scholars, scientists, doctors, and educators are among the best highly acclaimed world wide thinkers and spiritual advisors in modern society. The observations and comments of each individual were short, direct, and easy to follow. Contemplative exercises for meditation and enlightenment were also included.

The observations realized from "Power of the Heart: Finding Your True Purpose in Life" were that the heart is all knowing, so powerful it is associated with the "voice of God" or the universe, which essence is love.
