Mystical and Magical

Evelina and the Reef Hag is a new take on witches... and those who interact in their world. Evelina is a novice water witch, though she has little knowledge and only the cosmic connection with Grams to help her (along with her scatterbrain aunts), she works to discover what happened to her parents and why they were murdered. Frankie, a young time keeper forbidden to see Evelina but can't seem to stop himself, is the one person who seems to believe in her above all else, and ultimately and though it's been forbidden, loves her (time keepers and witches are not supposed to be together). But, this latest adventure with the Reef Hag, a nasty, body snatching water hag, might end up being the end of them all. The Reef Hag has powers and allies that could cost Evelina more than she willing to lose.

I love how Ms. Donnelly brings her characters to life. Evelina is kind of in that awkward stage between being a kid and becoming an adult. This is a quick little read that works perfectly as a stand-alone story even though it's the second book of the series, I had no trouble following the storyline. Excellent for readers of all ages.

Great YA Fantasy - can't wait to read more

This is the first book I have read in this series and I enjoyed it enough to want to read the first and next ones. Evelina is a young water witch and has been visited by a Reef Hag. Problem is, no one believes her.

She searches for her parents' murderer, even as she fights her attraction for Time Keeper, Frankie. The hero, Frankie, has his own problems from trying to save the water witches, breaking rules, fighting darkness along with Evelina and his love for her despite his bethrothal.

Evelina was an intriguing character who switched from almost being childlike to adult - which is perfect for a YA - a mixture of a kid and adult rolled into one.

Even though this may be read as a stand alone novel, there were many characters and it was difficult to keep track of who was who. I think readers of the first book won't have any problem with that as they will have the history and wonder of these marvelous characters.

I highly recommend this novel to fans of YA Fantasy.

Magic, Mystery and Excitement

Posting on behalf of my 9 year old daughter, who was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.
Evelina goes back to her Auntie's for the Glaring, a warlock contest. But mysterious killings are happening and it is suspected to be the work of a reef hag.
Her favorite scene was when Evelina and her friends win a contest against the Cheetums, having sold more food.
She says she would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys magic, mystery and excitement.
She devoured this book almost entirely in one day and has already asked me if there are any more by this author. I can't offer my own opinion, as I haven't read the book yet. But any book that keeps my daughter engaged like this one did is a winner to me.

A disappointing guide to Sao Paulo

This guide book provides information on a very limited number of interesting sights in Sao Paulo. The photographs are lovely and the book is designed with a pleasing esthetic but it's essentially useless other than seeing a few of the major places to visit. There was nothing here that I didn't see online already. I glanced through it in less than 15 minutes and did not bring it on my trip to Sao Paulo.

Just a fabulous book! I quite frankly cannot believe this fine book has not been reviewed. I picked this book up on Amazon subsidiary Abebooks from a book store in Wales. This is the best collection of pictures I've seen of the Trans-Siberian Railway, which was until the early 1990's, a remote, but hardly insignificant railroad route. The width of this railway (7 time zones) is covered in no other book as it is done here by the authors. The pictures really represent an amazing cross-section of Russia, with excellent city and country photographs. This book was a monumental undertaking in every way, and Anne and Olaf Meinhardt are to be commended for it. Just my opinion, but if you were to take this book, along with Bryn Thomas' Trans-Siberian Handbook, and Bert Quint's VHS Trans-Siberian Railway Journeys (see my review), you will have an excellent overview of a true trans-continental railroad, and quite possibly man's greatest engineering undertaking ever.

Furthermore, the struc­ tural analysis of important virulence factors and surface antigens may allow the prediction of antigenic domains suitable for the development of new vaccines. easy ways to make complex BPEL

The immediate short term goal of this book is for you to pass its corresponding Oracle SOA exam. But you can rise above this, by using it to learn how Oracle has continued to support and extend Service Oriented Architecture far beyond its roots of 10 years ago.

Then, SOA and Business Process Execution Logic [BPEL] were first touted as enabling the making of Web Services. A loosely coupled and distributed framework of services. But there were little actual useful implementations. Now, through this book, you can see and benefit from the massive effort put in by Oracle to instantiate those in java and XML. There are many XML snippets, often for WSDL (Web Services Description Language), that describe examples of messages passed from one Web Service to another.

One neat feature of the book is the many figures that show graphically how to make a BPEL process. The modular building block nature of this is how in practice many of you will make an original process. There is a very intuitive feel to just taking the output of a single process, which might be a Web Service all its own, and hooking that into the input of another process. This subsumes much (all?) of the complexity in outputting a specifically XML formatted message and in the receiving process having to parse that message.

For some readers who just might hail from electric engineering backgrounds - There is a direct analogy between the above and how you can use other software packages (like pSpice or L-edit) to make a complex electrical circuit or a chip design out of simpler existing designs.

Ideal for attempting SOA Certification but also a good overview of SOA Suite

Passing any certification exam not only requires practical experience of the product but a clear understanding of what is required
to pass the exam. As someone with a lot of practical experience of SOA Suite I found this a very useful guide to the certification exam and what is expected. The content is neatly broken down into appropriate topics and each is explained in sufficient, but not too much, detail.

If you are planning to attempt the certification exam, I would say a book like this is a must. If not, this is still a very good introduction to SOA Suite.

Not comprehensive enough for certification

I purchased this book with the intention of getting sufficient knowledge to clear the certification exam. But this book is not comprehensive enough to cover all the topics in sufficient detail.

Cons:
1) The author has simply copied and pasted Diagrams, XML files and exam objectives throughout the book, while writing only a few lines of text on his own that would barely fill a page for each chapter.

2) No proofreading - I found plenty of grammatical and spelling mistakes throughout this book. If that's not enough, then take a look at the other four books on SOA by this same author, namely "Kathiravan Udayakumar", and all those four books also have the same mistakes as I later found out.

3) Seems like this author is trying to sell several copies of books covering various branches in SOA but doesn't have the time to read and review the books or to write them properly with sufficient and useful information, while being in a hurry to make money to launch these books on amazon (as of Jan 2013 these books had been launched recently). This is appalling to say the least.

Much of the information that was listed in this book consisted of pure data entry on the part of a non-English speaking individual and with several repetitions of the same line of text to fill up the book.

I would not recommend this book to anyone.
